The Oscars is always a welcome event in the fashion calendar, with the most elusive stars walking the red carpet in beautiful gowns and dresses worthy of an award in themselves. The 2022 Oscars were no exception to this rule, with actors and actresses such as Jessica Chastain in Gucci, Nicole Kidman in Armani and Lupita Nyong’o in Prada giving us one hell of a show.
Also on show, Timothee Chalamet’s bares all as he donned a shirtless Louis Vuitton look straight from the womenswear catwalk. He accessorised the embroidered lace jacket with black boots and a sparking double necklace.
Chalamet is often one to break and push fashion boundaries on the red carpet such as his most recent Met Gala look, which paid ode to the theme of all-Americanism with Converse trainers and tracksuit style trousers by Rick Owens, which caused a few raised eyebrows. But not as many as this latest look.
The exposed nature of the look has the internet divided, with some swooning over the young actor and others commenting on the inappropriate nature of the look. It goes without saying that Chalamet is not the first man to bare a nipple on the red carpet but it is (to our knowledge) the first time it has been done on the Oscars red carpet, and we can’t help but wonder why it hasn’t happened sooner?
Despite the Academy Awards dress code being much more tuxedo centric than other awards shows such as the VMA’s or the Emmy’s, we have seen multiple female stars bare all manner of skin without as much of a ruckus.
Halle Bailey wore a stomach and leg barring blue Roberto Cavalli gown, and Lily James’ Versace gown featured a deep v and daring leg split at the Academy Awards this year.
The Oscars red carpet has also been graced by the likes of Cher in that *iconic* Bob Mackie dress and Gal Gadot in a voluminous dress with a sheer lace top to it. The world has no issues with a woman wearing very little on the red carpet but has a problem with the moment men ditch their traditional and stiff black tie.
