Fashion magazine British Vogue have appointed their first male editor.
Edward Enninful, who is currently Creative and Fashion Director at W Magazine will take over the role from August 1.
He will be the first male editor of the fashion bible in its 101-year history.
Born in Ghana as one of six children, he moved to London and grew up in the Ladbroke Grove area. His fashion career took off at the age of 16 when a model scout spotted him.
At just 19, Mr Enninful was appointed fashion director at i-D magazine and kept the post for more than two decades.
In the announcement, Jonathan Newhouse, Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive, said Enninful is “an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music”, who is ”supremely prepared to assume the responsibility of British Vogue.”
The 45-year-old was was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth last year for services to diversity in the fashion industry and was named fashion creator of the year by the British Fashion Council in 2014.
Edward Enninful also helped make I Am An Immigrant – a video which unites 81 fashion celebrities in a protest against Donald Trump’s travel ban.
He will take over from Alexandra Shulman, who announced she was stepping down in January.
Ms Shulman, who has been the longest-serving editor of British Vogue said she was leaving the magazine after 25 years because she “wanted to experience a different life”.
