It may only be the middle of October, and whilst the rest of us are probably still working hard to plan our Halloween costumes, the team at Charlotte Tilbury is moving on to bigger and better things: Christmas.
In an exclusive event in partnership with Fenwick, professional make-up artist Sofia Tilbury taught us her best-kept beauty secrets and shared a beautiful and glowy festive make-up look.
The event, which was both in person and streamed via zoom webinar, was hosted by Sam Tsan and the team at Charlotte Tilbury, which has just launched a new Instagram account for the brand’s skincare.
Editor of Femtech World, Sorina Mihaila, attended the event. “Sofia was amazing. I could have listened to her talking about makeup – and Kate Moss’ beauty concerns – all day”, she said.
As we are all guilty of, Sofia admitted to doing her make up in the back of an Uber and to needing a q-tip to sharpen up the wings or a feline liner look.
For the base of the look (and pretty much every other make-up look she does), Sofia suggested Hollywood flawless filter and then tapping in the foundation with a stippling motion as to not drag the make up across the skin. She used colour corrector to even out any pigmentation, lifting and brightening the high points of the face. She also swept it under the eyes and over the eyelids before concealer.
The make up artist gushed about working with her aunt Charlotte for over 11 years, and shared some of her wisdom with the attendees; “you can’t have a beautiful face without a beautiful base”.
She then applied concealer in sweeping, up turned motions, at the high points of the face before applying bronzer just on the cheekbone and sweeping it up lightly.
“Its about playing with light”, she informed as she worked.
To achieve a mini-face-lift-like effect, Tilbury brushed up the brows as opposed to following the brow line, which can lead to a slight downturn. And then she moved onto the lids, priming them with a light shade of pillow talk.
“Backwards and forwards like a windscreen wiper”, she applied a darker shade to the outer corners of the eye to create a smokey, party perfect cat eye. Sofia even dotted a sprinkle of light shadow on the inner corner of the eye to keep it ‘light and bright’.
With a deep brown shade of eyeliner (yes, we didn’t expect that either), she drew a small feline flick, which she claimed everyone can wear, no matter their eye shape. Mascara was applied liberally to the top and outer bottom lashes to help create a lift in the eyes.
Finally, the top make up artist dusted the high points of the face with brightening powder, blended some of the viral beauty light wand highlighter onto the cheekbones, top of the nose and cupids bow before finishing with a mix of two blush shades, applied on the apples of the cheeks.
The final look was a Christmas party perfect look: dewy, golden and bright!
