The bar was set when Paris Fashion Week took to Instagram giving us teasing previews of what was in store from Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel SS16 show. Expectations were sky high as the snaps of ‘Chanel Airlines’ boarding passes and ‘Gate No.5’ swarmed social media. The Grand Palais had been transformed into the world’s most stylish airport and expectations were soon to be met.

With the likes of Kendall Jenner, Edie Campbell and Binx Walton on exhibit, the front row had the honour of seating Lily-Rose Depp and mother, Vanessa Paradis. Accompanying them in the airport lounge was Anna Wintour, and Cara Delevingne.

Obviously the chic, Chanel airport was one of first class; with a rather glamorous approach to travelling. None of the jet easy, comfy outfits that I am sure many of us would choose. The show opened with two pilots wearing Lagerfeld high collars and uniforms. Following them came colours of summer in a retro style, tweed box cut suit jacket and trousers.

Many of the outfits were accessorised with statement ‘Karl sunglasses’ – big, block and blacked out. They came in various colours and successfully added a retro edge to Chanel’s traditional trait which combines masculine and feminine.

Chunky soled, perspex sandals (yes, perspex sandals are a thing) took to the runway mastering the cool yet fabulous with each different garment, be it a bright, bold printed flowing skirt or a classic sophisticated Channel suit. The quirky shoes did nothing but compliment the details of the designs with simplicity. They will no doubt be replicated in high street stores along with the heavy chain necklaces.

Typical to an airport theme, some prints and accessories featured aeroplanes. Models were also done up, given a hostess look – Chanel style, of course. With explicit detail in the tweed and embellishment throughout the collection – not forgetting the various matching hats and bags – make up was kept minimal with nude lips and smokey blue eyes, entitling all focus onto the clothes.

Our soared expectations were definitely exceeded by a mile. The show took on aspects from modern street style and classic high end fashion and each model was perfectly styled parallel to the airline theme. Carla joined Karl as he took to the floor and circled the airport finishing off the show in true Chanel fashion, with a newly introduced sky high style. This show has set the standards not only for SS16 trends but for a new stylish way to travel, and was phenomenal the whole way.
