The Golden Globes: The best & worst dressed of 2015

K2

The Golden Globes mark the start of award season. It’s a time when the world performs collective gushing’s of praise and judgement over our favourite stars, and the designer brands who dress them.

Here are our top five best and worst dressed from the award ceremony, in no particular order.

Best dressed

Helen Mirren – The legend that is Helen Mirren has out shined her fellow actresses in this stunning rouge Dolce & Gabbana number. The 100 Foot Journey star, paid homage to the shootings at the Charlie Hebdo, by pinning a blue fountain pen to the left side of the neckline. Who needs expensive jewels, when a pen speaks more volumes.

Lupita Nyong’o – The 12 Years A Slave actress wowed in Giambattista Valli last night. This ombré purple to white dress, with three-dimensional bustier area was completed with Chopard drop earrings. Devine.

Keira Knightley – Recently pregnant, Keira Knightley floated down the red carpet in this empire-line Chanel dress. The dress had delicate butterflies and feathers over the off white fabric. Her hair in a relaxed bun at the nape of the neck, and a butterfly attached to the strap of the black clutch, with a simple black court shoe completed the ensemble.

Emma Stone – Currently playing Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Emma Stone took the red carpet in a Lanvin jumpsuit. A nice contrast against the dresses the shrouded the runway.

Kate Hudson – The actress wore white. A Versace figure hugging number with crystalized cut out at the waist. The pure white number finished with a slim white clutch. Shine bright Kate, shine bright.

Worst dressed

Felicity Jones – Can anyone say a posh toilet roll cover? Felicity Jones star of The Theory Of Everything, obviously didn’t get the theory behind wearing a attractive dress to an award ceremony. The turquoise dress by Dior, just doesn’t hit the spot. It looks almost like she wanted her décolletage on show and at the last minute asked for a modesty panel.

Behati Prinsloo – WHY WOULD YOU WEAR A BANDEAU TOP TO AN AWARD CEREMONY? The model and wife of Maroon 5 front man, Adam Levine, wore a shimmering high-waisted skirt and bandeau top to the show. But it begs the question, why?

Amanda Peet – Star of TV series, The Good Wife, Amanda Peet looks like she’s deployed a parachute and decided to wear it. I’m all for a relaxed fit, but this it’s severely over sized and does not flatter her at any angle.

Frances O’Connor – Australian actress Frances O’Connor decided to wear a black bin bags last night. From the waist up the dress was stunning with it’s black lace bustier and simple jewellery and make-up. The Mr Selfridge and The Missing star’s lower half had an excess of fabric, that did not need to be there.

Maggie Gyllenhaal – Oh Maggie where to start. The fabric choice by Miu Miu exposed the puckering of the hemline stitching, around the mid-thigh area is crumpled and the joining seam on the side is also slightly pulling. I am rendered speechless.

American Hustle nominee, Amy Adams looked eye catching in a two toned Valentino red gown.
Taylor Swift looked old Hollywood in a Carolina Herrera gown with a black top
Sandra Bullock looked...unusual in a a striped Prabal Gurung creation teamed with open toe shoes
The beautiful Mila Kunis wore a Gucci sequinned gown which oozed Hollywood glamour
Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael hit the carpet in a monochrome Viktor & Rolf low-cut dress
And her on-screen sister, Michelle Dockery made pale look pretty in a beige Oscar De La Renta gown
Nominated actress Lupita Nyong'o looked stunning in a sleeveless Ralph Lauren gown with a cape detail
Emma Watson stood out in a backless chiffon Dior dress and protected her modesty in black Capri pants. A real FN talking point!
Helen Mirren looked a dream in a green Jenny Packham dress. Has she ever got it wrong?!
